SAY goodbye to progress droughts and hello to progress streaks!

"FOCUS time gave me an opportunity to work distraction-free and power through my PhD tasks one at a time, with intention and purpose."
- Dr Michelle Gibbs | Mrs Mummy PhD®

Why do you experience 'progress droughts'?

Some of these progress droughts can come our way when our motivation is low or we feel overwhelmed by our to-do lists and it becomes easier and easier to put tasks off for another day.

The problem with avoiding the difficult tasks on our to-do lists is that this leaves us feeling more unproductive and the overwhelm-progress drought cycle continues.

Of course, that overwhelm then trickles into family life and suddenly we find ourselves easily irritated, snapping at everyone at home and stuck in the valley of disillusionment and overwhelm.

By the way, if you wish to listen to all of this information in a related podcast episode instead, please feel free to tune in using the player below. However, please note that you'll need to return to this page if you wish to sign up.

So what can you do about 'progress droughts'?

Finally some good news...

The good news is that some of the contributors to these progress droughts are actually within our control.

When we focus on the factors that we can change and take purposeful action on those, we can build some initial momentum which helps us to make intentional progress in our work.

This means that when we are with our partners and kids, we can truly show up for that family time and be present without the guilt because we’re not constantly worrying about all the PhD-related tasks we haven’t done.

How can you stay purposeful and productive?

When I reflect on what helped me stay purposeful and productive on my Scholarly Mama® journey as a busy Mama of 1, and then of 2 and 3 during my PhD, it really was down to becoming intentional about how I spent my time and energy. I knew I needed to FOCUS on what mattered in the season of Scholarly Motherhood I was in. Part of that meant taking back control of my to-do list and getting things done in the time I had.

One of the things that enabled me to do this was blocking out regular 'FOCUS time' on my calendar where I would mono-task my way through my lengthy to-do list, and make consistent progress.

And guess what this meant? It meant that I got to enjoy family time guilt-free!

So how did I do it?

Well... that FOCUS time on my calendar gave me the opportunity to work distraction-free and power through my PhD tasks one at a time, with intention and purpose.

And because I know the process works, I'm inviting you to join me for FOCUS time in our brand new virtual workspace, Scholarly Mamas® FOCUS.

Let's be honest here, we all know that one of the best things about doing a PhD is the freedom to work autonomously, especially when you're also juggling motherhood and family life. Having that flexibility is GREAT! But simultaneously, one of the worst things about doing a PhD is that autonomy, especially when you also wear other hats!

Because, truth be told, when real life is happening all around you, it can add a great deal of pressure to an already stressful journey and those dreaded progress droughts can begin to creep in.

This is where FOCUS time is most essential.

Many of our Scholarly Mamas® have expressed a need for co-working opportunities to help them avoid procrastination and get more done.

When you can intentionally set aside time to FOCUS on a single task, you can supercharge your productivity AND enjoy the precious family life you cherish dearly.

I believe it’s possible for you to get more done in the pockets of time you do have Mama, and our FOCUS sessions can help you do just this!

In fact, your purposeful progress is the ultimate goal of this virtual co-working space.

This is why I'm so thrilled to introduce to you, our exclusive 'book-as-you-need' co-working space: Scholarly Mamas® FOCUS.
